Astrolabe
The corvette L'Astrolabe was launched at Toulon in 1811. She was initially designated as horse transport ship named Ecurie. The ship had a displacement of 390 tons and soon after launch, it will be discovered that she had very good nautical qualities.

During 1813 she was refit for logistic purposes (transportation of men and ammunition). The new corvette was named La Coquille.

Because of her qualities, she was again transformed for geographic survey voyages. In 1822, she set out on her first world voyage of exploration under Lieutenant Commander Duperrey. In 1825, she was renamed Astrolabe in memory of an earlier exploration ship (frigate L’Astrolabe) which, under the command of Jean La Perouse was lost after successful surveying California, the west coast of North America, and remote areas of the western Pacific.

Thereafter, Astrolabe participated mostly in exploratory expeditions. She sailed on her second discovery voyage under Capt. Jules Dumont d'Urville, which, in 1837 discovered the continent of Antarctica.
The Astrolabe was sold and scraped down in 1851.

This fine scale model is made from a quality wooden kit from Mantua Model. The model, which is currently on production at our company, has a length of 1100 mm (for 1:60 scale) and is a very precise reproduction, in every detail, of the original ship. The model is built up by using the plan of the ship from the French Naval Museum from Paris. Materials used for the construction are high quality (walnut and lime planking, brass guns, brass and walnut fittings, wooden masts and spars). This model is made by our experienced modelers in hundreds of hours of very careful work. The painting pattern is the one from commissioning of the ship, in 1811.

Basically, the model comes without sails, for a better view of bridge details. We can be fit the model with sail on special order, for an extra 400 EUR.
The show case and transport to customer are not included in the price of the model. You have to pay them separately, as follows:
- show case 200 EUR,
- transport: depending on customer location.

Size (L x W x H): 1100 x 850 x 350 mm
